This Wednesday I travel to the Richmond Funny Bone where I’ll be opening for Joe Starr. As an MC, your job is to warm up the audience as much as possible in a 10-15 minute time span. While you certainly want to show that you can be funny, the more important job is to get the audience ready to laugh- they’re there for the Headliner, NOT the MC.
As such, I need to define a 15 minute set that I can use to get the audience laughing and ready for a hilarious evening. It may not be my funniest set, but hopefully it’ll be the best at warming up the crowd. I’ll create a first attempt for the show Wednesday, and then with some refinements throughout the rest of the week, I should have a solid 15 for the last 2 shows on Saturday.
Success = 15 minute set list focused on building energy in the audience.
