As a comedian, it’s not often that your best thoughts come to you when you sit down to write. Often times they come at a random point in the day, such as while driving, on the subway, in the shower, or while “listening” to your co-worker go on and on about their “incredible” weekend.
When such thoughts come to you, it’s important that you take note of them somehow (writing it down on a napkin or scrap piece of paper, texting yourself a note, or even recording it in a voice recorder or cell phone), otherwise you risk losing that hilarious premise forever. It’s also important to eventually go back and copy those ideas into a central repository (for me it’s in an online wiki), and sort out the good ideas from the bad.
With over 300 ideas floating around in one of the mediums listed above, it’s about time I go back and filter for the golden nuggets.
Success = Copying all audio notes (200+), texted notes (40+), and handwritten notes (60+) into my online wiki.
