Project #5 – My Fave 5 (Review)

After spending the past week reviewing various audio and video recordings of my sets, as well as thinking about the overall tone and message I would want to present in an ideal set, I’ve decided on my (current) Fave 5. I say “current” because this could change in the next couple of months as I work on even more material.

So here it is, my favorite 5 minutes, complete with my reasoning. I’ll get a video up of this favorite set as soon as I can get a good tape of the full thing.

  • Deep Sexy Voice - It’s quick, something everyone can relate too (my voice) and goes over well as my first joke.
  • Despite How – More of the above. Starts me off with a solid 30 seconds with 5 different spots people generally laugh.
  • Sister Dub Over – Is one of the most physical of my bits and lets people get to know a little bit more about me.
  • Thrown - Quick laugh.
  • Labor Day – Quick laugh that you have to think about.
  • Just Graduated – More obvious appearance humor.
  • Engineered Marriage – A good “curveball” joke that’s based on word-play.
  • Divorce Reception – Something everyone is familiar with, but haven’t necessarily formulated into a “what-if” scenario like I describe.
  • Chocolate Milk – More insight into my personality.
  • Bathroom Jesus – A great pun.
  • Text Breakup – More for transition, but also a great joke for the younger crowd.
  • Text Alphabet – Kind of funny, but definitely clever ending that generally causes an applaud break (always a good note to go out on).

It was certainly difficult to narrow down my “favorite” bits, but I like the above set because it remains clean and (hopefully) appeals to almost all generations. While I have other jokes that might be funnier or garner a little bit more laughter or applause, I think this complete set will at least leave people thinking “Not only is he clever and clean, but he’s also pretty funny.”
