Redefine 2009: Year in Review

Redefine 2009 is now over and it’s been a good but challenging year.  It’s time to take a look back at the goals for 2009:

1. Redefine 2009 – COMPLETE
It’s a toss-up as to whether or not this was completed this year.  I had a focus every month of the year, but I didn’t always complete them… but if I think of a passing grade from school, I’m going to say that this was completed because the end goal–becoming Drew 2.0–was achieved.

2. 53 Weekly Projects Challenge – COMPLETE
The weekly projects this year went in a slightly different direction than I imagined–they were less about personal development and more about productivity, which isn’t a bad thing.  Overall, a good year with lots of good things accomplished.

3. Weekly Content Creation Challenge – COMPLETE
While it required some back-dating of posts, I do now have 53 weeks worth of creative entries to share.  Some weren’t that great, but the weekly deadline was good for forcing me to constantly challenge myself.

4. Establish 4 New Habits – INCOMPLETE
This goal was great on paper (/screen), but never really materialized.  And unfortunately rather than even having 1 habit that’s completely stuck, I’ve gone back and forth with all 4 of them.  Sadly, the first incomplete of the year (and sadlier not the last).

5. Improve My Taste – COMPLETE
This was definitely a great goal and more fun than I thought it’d be.  I’m not quite at 6 fruits and vegetables, but I do have some new cuisines that I normally would never eat (such as salads, pomegranates, and beans (in chili)) or drink (like V8, Corona, and various smoothies).  I still eat like an 8-year old, but every now and then you’ll catch me having an adult meal.

6. Publish a Book – INCOMPLETE
I did publish an eBook this year, but the goal was to have a physical book I could put on my shelf, so this one is incomplete.

7. Get 100,000 views on YouTube – INCOMPLETE
For the second year in a row, I didn’t even come close to this.  At the most, I had 1,000 views on videos I created this year, meaning this was an epic failure.

8. $10,000 in Supplemental Income – INCOMPLETE
While this was a great goal to have, I didn’t come close to reaching it.  The idea was that the humor site would bring in some money, but due to some delay in putting ads up and lower traffic numbers than I hoped, very little was made.  That being said, I do have high hopes for the site in 2010.

9. Get on a Harold Team – INCOMPLETE
I’ve improved tremendously as an improviser this past year but know I still have a long way to go.  I auditioned for a UCB Harold team but didn’t make it (there were over 400 auditioners for only ~15 spots) so this one is incomplete, but still a good year for improv.

10. Get 1-Rated at Work – COMPLETE
It was a very challenging year at work (in a good way) and thanks to some strong guidance and hard work, I was able to get back to a top rating.

The success rate for 2009 was 50%–I was able to do half of what I set out to do at the beginning of the year.  Given the large number of shifting priorities in the year, I can’t be upset about my accomplishments, though there is room for improvement.  All in all, I’m proud of 2009, it was a very good year.
