Project #47 - Work on a Bit (Task)

George Carlin’s Modern Man is probably one of the greatest bits on wordplay I’ve ever seen.  It reminds me of a few of my own jokes, but obviously a lot better and all rolled into one.  In a tribute to Carlin and in an attempt to challenge my writing skills, I want to write a bit that is similar in premise but with my own spin it.

Success = A 5-minute stand-up bit.

Project #46 - Create Some Improv Videos (Task)

I’ve longed believed that improv isn’t just for the stage or for warming up actors, but is also applicable in the business world and every day life.  In an attempt to help share some exercises that anyone can do to make improvements in their life, I want to create some videos showcasing how to do said exercises and what benefit they provide.

Success = Creating at least 5 videos of doing improv exercises.

Project #45 - Submit an Article (Task)

As we head into the 11th month of the season, it’s time I really get cracking on my goals.  One of those goals is to publish an article, and in order to do that I have to actually submit articles to get published.  This week’s project is to write an article and submit to at least one publishing medium.

Success = A submitted entry to a publishing site or magazine.

Project #44 - Web Cram-off Video Contest (Task)

In honor of the New York Comedy Festival coming up, UCB is having a “Web Cram-Off” video contest where participants have 7 days to come up with a video based on a word they provided.  Since I want to get more into writing, producing, and editing sketches, this seems like the perfect excuse to try to create something.

This week’s goal is to create a sketch for the contest.  The key here is “create.”  Working with a couple of other people, we’ve decided that we only want to submit the video if we’re proud of the final product.  Therefore we could create something that never gets shown to the public.

Success = Creating a video sketch for the Web Cram-off Competition.

Project #43 - Personal Development for Smart People (Task)

Personal development blogger, Steve Pavlina recently published a book called “Personal Development for Smart People.” As a way to promote his book, he offered to send a free copy to any blogger willing to review his book on their website.

I happen to be a blogger, I enjoy free things, and have an interest in personal development, so it seemed like a no brainer to join the other 400 bloggers and write a review. This week’s task is to finish reading the book and write a post about it, a la The Inner Game of Tennis from awhile back.

Success = A review of “Personal Development for Smart People” by Steve Pavlina.
